More info on the Sony HDR-TD10 3D HD Handycam

The folks at SGNL have produced another video about the new Sony 3D handycam in response to the many questions people asked about the previous video we posted here.

While the video is very much a Sony sales pitch, it does provide a lot more technical info about the camera, including a planned patch for Sony Vegas Pro 10. The camera also can record to several flavors of SD cards. The interaxial is still TBD, but they said it's "about an inch".

Stereo 3D Channel on Vimeo now available on Samsung TV's

The Stereo 3D Channel on Vimeo is now available on all Samsung internet-ready TV's.

Popular video-sharing site Vimeo recently launched an app for Samsung internet-ready TV's, and included with the list of featured channels is our very own Stereo 3D Channel.

You won't need a pricey 3DTV to watch it, as most of the videos are uploaded as anaglyphs, which can be viewed on any TV or computer with inexpensive red/cyan glasses. Many of the short films that won awards at recent 3D film festivals/events first premiered on the Stereo 3D Channel. Founded in 2008, it features over 1,600 carefully curated videos: short films, music videos, documentaries, commercials, and more, from all over the globe.

For those of you with 3DTV's, side-by-side videos currently cannot be watched through the app, but we expect future updates will enable this function to allow for more diverse viewing options.

The Stereo 3D Channel on Vimeo has previously been featured on Stereoscopy News, 3D Manifesto, VFX Filmmaker, 3DGuy.tv, and skewed magazine, just to name a few.

Thanks to Philip Heggie for letting us know this app is also available in Australia, in addition to the US where we tested it. And thanks to all the filmmakers who have shared their work with us on Vimeo.

Who's On First? Penthouse Alleges World's First 3D Channel

Again in the world of 3D first fights, we have Penthouse announcing the launch of the world's first 3D channel. Except, there already is one. And ESPN has one. And DirectTV has one. Even if Hustler wanted to get all nit-picky and claim to be the world's first 3D porn channel, France beat them to it.

While we haven't seen much of Penthouse's 3D work, if the videos on their Penthouse3D Youtube Channel like the one below are any indication, their production value and technical acuity are much higher than their competitors. However, this sample is skimpy on plot, indicative of the gonzoification of the adult entertainment industry, which has stripped all narrative constructs and artistic vision from erotic cinema, leaving nothing but pure gratuity. See some of that after the jump.

Blu-Ray 3D Review: IMAX Space Station 3D

*For those of you not familiar with Blu-Ray 3D, this is the new Blu-Ray spec for 3D content that can be watched on 3DTV's, or in 2D on regular Blu-Ray players. Our Blu-Ray 3D reviews will cover the film, the use of 3D, and the quality of the Blu-Ray itself*

IMAX Space Station 3D is a medium-length documentary from 2002, directed by Toni Myers, with narration by Tom Cruise. Having a life-long fascination with space-stuff, I was very excited to watch this in all its glory.

A closer look at the Sony HDR-TD10 3D HD Handycam

The folks at SGNL produced this video at CES 2011 covering the newly-unveiled Sony HDR-TD10 3D HD Handycam. They don't reveal the details we previously blogged about wanting to know, but it does give you a hands-on look at the camera. Looks promising so far as it eliminates the difficulties with 2-camera 3DIY rigs, such as synchronizing recording/focus/exposure and properly aligning two cameras. It's unknown if the footage is compatible with the newest Sony Vegas Pro 10, which offers a lot of 3D editing controls, but they allude to new editing software coming soon that can process the 3D footage. We'll bring you more details on the camera and its compatibility with other 3D editing tools as they become available.

JVC Also Produces World's First Full HD 3D Camcorder Ever: the GS-TD1

This just in: JVC has also produced the world's first full HD 3D Camcorder!

Though most of the specs for the JVC GS-TD1 have not been released yet, it looks similar to the world's first ever full HD 3D camcorder produced by Sony, with 1080i recording on two lenses and two sensors, and 3D glasses-free viewfinder. However, JVC's has auto-parallax control, can shoot 3D time lapse and 3D still images, can record independent left/right videos or one side-by-side for easy 3DTV-viewing, and is $500 more expensive. Hopefully having competing camcorders will help drive down the cost of both. We're excited to see so many new options!

Sony Reveals new 3D Camcorder, the HDR-TD10

Sony's new 3D Camcorder debuts at CES!

Being touted as the first full HD 3D camcorder, Sony's promising HDR-TD10 3D Camcorder was announced at CES. There have been a few 3D HD camcorders trickling out since last year, but unlike Panasonic's HDC-SDT750, which shoots 1 1080i stream with the left right eye squeezed next to each other, this one appears to offer two separate video streams. And unlike Panasonic's consumer model as well as the Panasonic AG-3DA1 camera, Sony's foray has a 3D viewfinder built in!

Of course, the press release, all the early mentions as well as Sony's website neglect to mention the most important 3D information: the interaxial distance, and if the lenses are parallel or converged.
